Orthodontic specialty care in Oxnard

What is an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dentist with additional specialty training in the alignment of teeth and jaws. The goal is to understand your bite, your stage of growth, and the options that fit your needs.

A focused dental specialty

More than straight teeth.

Orthodontists focus on how teeth, bites, and jaws work together. They can evaluate concerns at different ages and explain whether treatment, observation, or a later recheck makes sense.

Specialty training

After dental school, orthodontists complete a full-time orthodontic residency focused on tooth movement and jaw alignment.

Bite and growth evaluation

An orthodontist looks at how the teeth fit together, how permanent teeth are coming in, and how the jaws are developing.

Individual treatment plans

The recommendation may be monitoring, braces, clear aligners, retainers, or another approach based on the person and the timing.

When to visit

There is no single age for every treatment.

Children

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check-up when a problem is noticed, and no later than age seven. An evaluation does not mean treatment starts right away.

Teens

Crowding, spacing, teeth erupting out of position, and bite concerns are common reasons to discuss the timing of treatment during adolescence.

Adults

Adults can also ask about alignment or bite changes, a retainer that no longer fits, or whether orthodontics could support a broader dental plan.
